The Notes: Week of December 20 - December 25, 2021

Hello, Neighbors!  Welcome to Committee Week and -- more importantly -- the Countdown to Christmas Week!

Due to the upcoming holiday, things are awfully quiet on the city government front this week and there is only one scheduled meeting.  The Library Board's Scholarship Committee will meet at 4pm on Monday, 12/20/2021, to discuss the awarding of the Frank P Young Scholarship.  Other than that, the following phrase fills the upcoming week's meetings schedule page on the city's website: "The meeting has been cancelled."

To thank you for tuning in to the blog this week, here are some quick reminders for the upcoming weeks and the new year:

  1. Effective 01/01/2022, your home may be in a new district within the city!  As I've mentioned in many blog posts in recent weeks, the city has been redistricted subsequent to the 2020 Census.  Much of District 13 remains the same; but there are some new District 13 neighbors near Fox Valley Lutheran High School and some of our neighbors south of Northland Avenue are no longer District 13 neighbors.  Here is a final map of the new districts in the city.  And anyone can use the My Neighborhood portal to verify your current district, your alderman, your polling place, your garbage and recycling days and more. Please contact me with any questions you might have in this regard.

  2. As happens every holiday, there are some changes to the regular garbage and recycling schedules throughout the city the next couple of weeks.  Please check here for more information on this.  The last thing you want to do is be stuck with a garbage can overflowing with wrapping paper and gift packaging and miss your garbage pickup.

  3. In and amongst Christmas cards, you have likely already received in your mailbox that most fun and exciting (tongue firmly planted in cheek) piece of mail -- your property tax bill.  The city offers a number of ways in which you can make this property tax payment.  Please let me know if you have questions or concerns in this regard as well.

  4. MOST IMPORTANTLY... I wish you all a happy, safe, and blessed Christmas!  I hope it is a day and a week filled with the people you love, laughter (if possible), comfort (if not laughter), joy, and peace.

Next week's blog post will likely be as scintillating as this one.  But I hope you tune in anyway so that we can start the new year off together.

Until then... Merry Christmas!
