The Notes: Week of December 5 - December 9, 2022
Welcome back to another alderman blog installment, neighbors. Here we are in the first full week of December with the holidays approaching before you know it!
It's Full Council Week this week and there is one other presumably short meeting scheduled for the week as well. Here's your review of what can be expected:
Wednesday, 12/07/2022
Human Resources and Information Technology Committee - 6:30pm In this pre-full-council meeting, committee members will be asked to review and approve an "over hire" (which, as you know if you've been following the blog for a while, generally means that one job position will have two people holding it and being paid for it for a short time for the purposes of training and transfer of institutional knowledge). This over hire request comes from the Appleton Police Department (APD) for their front desk. For a grand total budget impact of a little over $4000 in 2022 and another $4300 in early 2023 (with dollars coming from the unused salary dollars for other temporarily vacant positions in the department), I see no reason that this over hire would not be approved for this important position.
The committee vote on this will carry forward to the agenda for the next meeting...
Full Common Council - 7:30pm Besides the above item, the following items will be discussed and potentially approved by the full council:
- From the Mayor's Office: A new Community and Economic Development Department (CEDD) Director has been found for the city and is up for full council confirmation. She has been an Outagamie County development and land services director and comes highly recommended to succeed the retiring CEDD, Karen Harkness. Here is her resume, if you're interested.
- From the Parks and Recreation Committee: There will be a public hearing regarding the proposed Fee in Lieu of Land/Public Facility Needs Assessment that was presented to the committee way back in early November. If you have any concerns or questions on this, I'd love to hear from you!
- From the Municipal Services Committee: The full council will look to approve the tentative landfill expansion agreement with Outagamie County. I reviewed this extensively last week in the Fifth Week blog post. But if you have any questions for me in this regard, please let me know!
As you might have expected with the Thanksgiving holiday and Fifth Week preceding this meeting, there is not much else on the docket.
And as you also might expect, I am concluding today's post with my usual request that you let me know if there is anything I can help you with or if you have any questions or concerns on anything city government related. I am always here and happy to serve you, my neighbors!!
I hope your first full week of December is a good one. I look forward to what the rest of this year brings... and I hope that it's all good for you and yours.
I would apprdciate any updates on the Library project and what the current costs and proposals are. With regard to public safety on our roadways any information on the widening/repaving/roundabouts on French road. (Roundabout at French and Edgewood and French and Northland).Lastly, any proposed project reports on I-41 widening and ramp improvements btween Highway N and College Ave. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your questions. There are really no further updates on the library project at this time. Staff and the architect and Boldt are still working on the proposed building plan, making modifications (we hear) to perhaps pare back a bit on the plan. But none of that has yet been divulged to the common council members.
DeleteAs far as I know, there are no plans to change or modify any of the current roundabouts on French Road. But there is a plan for 2023 for modifying the intersection of French Road and Northland Avenue. This is a Outagamie County project and more information can be found here: https://www.outagamie.org/government/departments-f-m/highway/highway-project-updates/county-oo-french-intersection
The I41 widening project (from Hwy 15 all the way north to Green Bay) is currently in the plan stages and moving forward. Here is the state DOT Hwy 41 project website map (with further info on the whole project): https://i41project.wisconsindot.gov/about#interactiveMap
Again... thanks for your questions. I'm happy to give further information if needed. Please email me at district13@appleton.org.
