The Brief Holiday-Week Notes: Week of June 30 - July 4, 2025

Hello, Neighbors!  Thanks for waiting a day for this week's alderman blog post.

I'll begin with my sincere wishes that you all have a fabulous day celebrating the birthday of our great nation this Friday:

And the rest of this short post is about the one meeting scheduled for this week.  Though this is a Full Council Meeting Week, the council cancelled this week's full council meeting way back in April.  This holiday week is known for its numerous city staff and council member vacations; so the early cancellation of the full council meeting during the week of the 4th of July is an annual occurrence.

The one meeting scheduled this week is of the Appleton Public Arts Committee.  They will meet on Wednesday, 07/02/2025, at 8am to discuss a request from a local artist in residence to install a temporary natural sculpture in Memorial Park.  The sculpture will apparently be a concentrical shape on the ground in the wooded area west of Witzke Boulevard made with pinecones.  The artist plans to create this during a public workshop there on 07/24/2025.  It will be an example of a "community built environmental sculpture."  According to the request memo, "the artist, program manager, and Parks and Recreation Department are aware that this is temporary and could be dismantled by the public."  But they're willing to take it on anyway, for the sake of public art.  I expect that committee members will vote to approve this without any issue.

I'm guessing that you don't have any questions or concerns about that one action item planned for the week in City of Appleton government.  However, if you do have any questions on it or anything city-government-related, please reach out and let me know!

This time I was actually right on the money when I said it would be a short blog post.  Thanks for tuning in for it.  I hope you'll join me again next week when there will likely be a bit more to talk about on new week's alderman blog post.

Have a great week!! :)
