The Notes: Week of November 24 - November 28, 2025

Hello, good neighbors!  Thank you for joining me for a short and sweet alderman blog post this week.  We are in a Committee Meetings Week... but since it's Thanksgiving next week, most of the committees have cancelled their meetings.  In fact, there is only one meeting scheduled.

Before we get to the details of that meeting, please know that I and my family wish you and yours a beautiful and blessed Thanksgiving.

Now we can move on to what the Parks and Recreation Committee will discuss this week.  They'll meet on Monday, 11/24/2025, at 6pm.  First on the agenda is a request for updated rates for Reid Golf Course for 2026.  Small increases are recommended for all daily fees except for junior class rates and a rate increase of $375 is proposed for business annual passes.  Next, this committee will look to approve the Appleton Public Arts Committee's top 12 choices of tiles for the next display round for the Houdini Plaza Tower.  You can view their choices by clicking the links to this action item on the meeting's online agenda.

In information items, the committee will review the October 2025 financials for Reid Golf Course and then, perhaps most importantly, they will review and discuss the proposed 2026-2030 Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan for the city.  Page 163 of the draft plan is where the "implementation plan" for improvements to the city's park inventory begins.  Have a look and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  In summary (on page 169), there are between $17.1M and $22.4M in plans for short-, mid-, and long-term planned changes/improvements for park land in the city proposed for 2026-2030.  And those totals do not include proposed changes/improvements for parks in the city with their own separate "master plans" such as Ellen Kort Peace Park, Appleton Conservancy (new parkland in the city's Southpoint Commerce Park), Veterans Memorial Park, and Telulah Park.

And that's all for council and committee work on this week's schedule.  I told you it would be a short alderman blog post!  And the fact that it's short makes it inherently sweet, don't you think? :)

I hope you have a safe and peaceful week without too much "holiday drama."  Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback on anything city-government-related.  I look forward to "meeting" you back here for another alderman blog post next week.
